Photographing my work has been an ongoing challenge to me. Witness the evolution of my photography skills in the archives of Planet Joy. You will see that I've tried shooting
indoors and
outdoors at various times of day, during the various seasons of the year with varying success.
I had the silks ready to ship to a shop in Portland, but the collection turned out so beautifully and I really wanted to capture it before I packaged them for shipping. The situation was lining up, it was the Golden Hour, sometimes referred to as the Magic Hour (the first and last hour of sunlight in the day when the special quality of light yields particularly beautiful photographs). AND the wisteria was in full bloom (and my camera battery was fully charged). I was compelled to attempt at an outdoor photo shoot!!

The setting, the mannequin in the garden |

I put some cotton gauze curtains on a pole and stuck it in the wisteria vine for a white backdrop |
The placement of the mannequin was tricky, placing it far enough away from the backdrop for perspective, while keeping the distracting elements out of the frame.

I thought the blossoming wisteria vine was a beautiful seasonal counterpoint to the hand painted silks, what do you think? I'm not a professional, but I think I did ok...
The sedona ruana has a different background, I tried having the white on just half of the frame. What do you think looks better, all white with a few wisteria tendrils or half white backdrop and half natural vine backdrop? Please let me know your preference in the comments!! Merci!
